Seven deadly shadows The Bad Beginning

Seven Deathly Shadows by Courtney Alameda & Valynne E. Maetani || Unfortunately, this was really disappointing for me. It has such a cool premise and it incorporates a lot of Japanese folklore. I was so excited to get to it, one of my most anticipated reads of the year! The thing is, there was too much story to tell in too little time. Everything felt so rushed, a lot of plot points were too convenient and the characters were barely developed. Such a shame! I thought about DNF’ing it more than once.

The Bad Beginning (#1) by Lemony Snicket || After seeing Emma @Drinking by my Shelf‘s video in which she read the entire series in a day, which inspired me to finally give it a try. I love the way this is written, it’s so much fun! All of the characters were either all good or all bad, so I’m curious to see how that’ll go, and how I’ll feel about it if it stays like that.

WWW Wednesday Currently reading

Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows the other people

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (#7) by J.K. Rowling || Re-read || To be completely honest with you, I haven’t read any more of this in the past week… or maybe even more? I keep putting it on later in the night and I instantly fall asleep. I might just have to pick the physical book of the shelf if I ever want to finish this re-read…

The Other People by C.J. Tudor || I’m reading this for the literally dead book club. So far it’s been interesting! It’s a mystery/thriller about a man who’s daughter is kidnapped, now, 3 years later we are following him as he drives up and down the same highway where he last saw her. We are also following a woman who knows what happened and a waitress that works in one of the highway’s service stations. I’m really curious about where it’s gonna go!

WWW Wednesday To be Read

the reptile room the hand on the wall

I’m thinking my next read will probably either be The Reptile Room, the second book in A Series of Unfortunate Events or The Hand on the Wallthe third and final book in the Truly devious series by Maureen Johnson. Look at me reading and continuing series! Who am I?

These are the books I have recently read, am currently reading and plan to read next.

Have you read any of these books?
What was the last book you finished?

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

    1. I had such mixed feelings about The Other People! It was so fast paced and I loved the perspectives, the dark web aspect and all of the discussion around grief. Yet I also felt there were a lot of strange plot points and character decisions, like how some of them instantly confessed all their evil plans once Gabe confronted them and all of the unexplained paranormal stuff. I don’t know about this month’s pick. I was planning too but I’m having a bit of trouble getting my hands on it :p I’ll hope you’ll be able to get around to it though!

        1. Oh that’s a shame! I checked the goodreads discussion for the first 6 chapters and it seems like you’re not the only one who has given up on it. You’re totally right to do so though! I’ve been feeling kind of slumpy myself and keep picking up different things but not being interested enough and putting it back down. Hope the next book you pick up works out better!

  1. A book based on Japanese folklore sounds like a great idea – I’m sorry that it wasn’t as enjoyable as you’d hoped! Good luck with your HP – nothing wrong with picking up the physical book if the audio isn’t working for you!
