top ten tuesday stars

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @That Artsy reader Girl. She provides us with prompts to write a bookish list. Personally, I don’t participate every week, just when I like a certain prompt or can twist it in some fun way.

This week we got “Love Freebie“. I don’t really read enough romance or love stories to make a list based around that. Instead, I decided to go with the LOVEly first lines topic. I’ve been doing this thing, Book Beginning Battles, in which we choose between the first lines of two books. I started that because something about a book’s first lines always intrigues me. When I finish a book I always go back to read the beginning. Sometimes it’s major foreshadowing, sometimes it feels like a lifetime away from where we ended up. Here are some great ones.

Those were all the lovely first lines I wanted to share with you. Now I’d like to know…

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.

  1. That’s a really interesting list. Sometimes when I look back on the first line of a book after reading it, I find that it actually has something to do with the ending. One of my favourite mysteries actually introduces the killer in the first sentence. Great post!

    1. I’m so sorry I haven’t replied to your comment sooner! I feel totally the same way. It’s so cool when authors make the first sentence really mean something, especially when it’s something you only get later on. That sounds amazing. I wanted to ask you what mystery that was, but I guess that would be a major spoiler haha :p

  2. Great topic choice this week! Honestly, I look back on Harry Potter so fondly in general and that first line is honestly a part of me at this point. I think it’s one of the only opening lines that I have memorized. That being said, adore Gone Girl’s opening line as well! It is so so so chilling and I love that it all winds back down to that line.

  3. I love a good opening line, one that really grabs you. I just read Gone Girl for the first time a while ago so can definitely relate to that one. Behind Her Eyes sounds really good too.

    1. It’s always great when you’re hooked from the very start! Gone Girl will always have a special place in my heart for being the book that got me (back) into reading. That first sentence takes on a lof of meaning throughout the book. 😋 The same kind of goes for Behind Her Eyes. Later it will become clear what that means. It’s a very unique one that isn’t for everyone but I would definitely recommend it!
