www wednesday
WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking on a World of Words. The aim is to give an update on your reading accomplishments and future plans.

The three W’s are:

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

the gentleman guide to getting lucky

The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky (#1.5) by Mackenzi Lee || Like you’ll read below, I’m kind of starting to get in a slump because of this other book I’ve been trying to read. I decided to pick up something short so I’m at least still reading something. I didn’t even know this book was a thing until I saw Jenna’s review for it. So I went into this without even reading the synopsis because I’ll read absolutely anything centering around these characters. Apparently it’s about Monty and Percy’s first time together… getting lucky… who would have thought?! (I’m an idiot). It was so cute ❤ Also, what a cliffhanger!

WWW Wednesday Currently reading

Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows  the luminous dead

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (#7) by J.K. Rowling || Re-read || Still doing my month-long start of the year re-read of the last Harry Potter book. I’m a little behind, but I’m sure I’ll catch up.

The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling || DNF @10% || I usually don’t DNF books. Either I stop reading something a few pages in (and don’t count that) or I finish it. This year though, I want to try to be more focussed on reading things I actually enjoy. So even though I didn’t that far into it and it might become really interesting, I’m just bored and I feel like this could be putting me in a slump. The main reason this isn’t working for me, believe it or not, is that it’s written in the third person. I just feel SO detached. That combined with the limited setting… Maybe I’ll give it another try someday because I did hear good things.

WWW Wednesday To be Read

behind closed doorsBehind Closed Doors
By B.A. Paris

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do.

You’d like to get to know Grace better.

But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart.

Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows.

Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.

I’m thinking I’ll keep picking up some shorter books in the hope I can combat this slump before it really becomes a full-blown thing. The audiobook for this one is only 6 hours long on 1.5 speed and I’ve been wanting to read something by B.A. Paris.

These are the books I have recently read, am currently reading and plan to read next.

Have you read any of these books?
What was the last book you finished?

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. I study The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky of Christmas or I really, without a doubt enjoyed it! It was once incredible lovely yet funny!💖 I want that used to be a tiny longer lol. Happy reading! 💖

  2. Nikki, the only one I have read is The Deathly Hallows – I hope you are enjoying your re-read. I am looking forward to re-reading/listening to The Goblet of Fire soon, as I just got it on audiobook for my birthday. I am sorry to hear you have already made your first DNF so early in the year, but like you I am going to try to be toughing on myself to stop reading books I am not truly enjoying this year, too! Happy reading 😀

    1. It’s always fun re-reading the Harry Potter books. Especially via the audiobook, so magical! That’s a great birthday present. I hope you enjoy it. Hopefully we both won’t have to dnf too many books this year, but it’s good to do so if a book really isn’t working. I’m sure this book would have put my in a slump if I hadn’t dnfed it! Happy reading to you too 😁

  3. Booo for your first DNF of the year. But hey, those things happen. I think I’ve already had one this year, too? I just … can’t remember what. Slumps are awful. I feel like I could be slipping towards one, too, but I’ve just decided to read multiple things to keep me going instead lol. DNFing was probably a good choice. Behind Closed Doors sounds like a good read, though, and hopefully, it’ll help pull you out of your slump!

  4. I’d say good decision DNF’ing, I’m just new to DNF’ing myself and I can say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever done in regards to my reading. I used to suffer (LOL) trying to finish every book I started. I wasted so much time, but I’ve learned now.
Also, may I know what wordpress theme are you using, I like it. 🙂 And obviously, I love the aesthetics of your blog. 🙂

  5. Ah, I know exactly what you mean. I just feel like Acotar is putting me into a slump as well. I really crave a really good middlegrade book right now but I don’t have anything like that on my tbr right now and I’m currently not buying books, sooo…

  6. I 100% agree with your DNF policy. I already DNFd 2 books this month, and maybe will DNF another one. I still count them as “read” though, because (1) those 10%, 20%, 50% that I read took me a VERY long time and effort, and (2) I don’t have any intentions to pick these books up in the future.

I heard amazing things about Behind Closed Doors! I hope you love it and it helps you getting out of the slump! Just a few days ago, I was looking for short audiobooks to listen to, this one would have been perfect.

    1. I love how ruthless you are with DNFing. Teach me your ways! 😋 I can really be too stubborn to give up a lot of the time. But I will probably generally like the books I finish better if I don’t force myself to finish books I’m not liking.

Yes I’ve heard so many good things too. And it would have been a great book for that. Which audiobook did you end up going for?

      1. Didn’t pick up any, ahaha 😀 I needed something quick to listen to when I was translating some documents, but didn’t find any audiobook that were short and interesting that night, and just ended up translating the docs with TV on the background. Lol

  7. I’ve been taking ages for my hp reread, I feel like I’ve been “reading” GoF for ages! I hope I can finish it soon. And I feel you! I started the year with a reading slump 😦 I think I’m getting over it, though, hope you are too! Happy reading 🙂
