WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking on a World of Words. The aim is to give an update on your reading accomplishments and future plans.

The three W’s are:

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Recently read

my lovely wife  fire force 1

My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing || My first read of the year. Look at that, another mystery/thriller. This one is about a couple who murder people together. Fun! I listened to the audiobook of this, and I was lost a bit in the middle. It was more the audiobook than the book. I even ended up re-listening to about an hour of it and then I was in it. I thought the last third of this was great and the ending was surprising!

Fire Force Vol. 1 by Atsushi Ohkobo || My fiancé actually got me this one for Christmas. The anime is one of his favorites as of late. How thoughtful! It’s quite an interesting world, a world in which spontaneous combustion is the #1 threat. People are turning into these burning monsters and our heroes are the only ones who can put them out. The art of the flames, smoke, and monsters is really well done. The only downside is that it has some of those weird over-sexualized scenes that do not make any sense in the context (which you see sometimes in manga). As long as it doesn’t happen too often I think I can overlook it.

WWW Wednesday Currently reading

Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows  the luminous dead

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (#7) by J.K. Rowling || Re-read || I planned to read a favorite as the first book of the year, to be sure I start 2020 off great. But then I thought, why not read a favorite the ENTIRE MONTH of January? So here I am, on the last book of my HP re-read, and I’m deliberately taking a month to read it. A chapter a day most days (6 days of double chapters). So far I’m on chapter 9, as planned. I think this will be my best plan all year.

The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling || I just started the audiobook for this one. It’s a horror book about a woman who goes on some kind of cave raiding mission. There is one other woman who is guiding her through an audio system. It has a really limited setting and only these two characters, so I’m curious how what this book will do to stay interesting for 400+ pages.

WWW Wednesday To be Read

The dead houseThe Dead House
By Dawn Kurtagich

“Twenty-five years ago, Elmbridge High burned down. Three people were killed and one pupil, Carly Johnson, disappeared. Now a diary has been found in the ruins of the school. The diary belongs to Kaitlyn Johnson, Carly’s identical twin sister. But Carly didn’t have a twin . . .

Re-opened police records, psychiatric reports, transcripts of video footage and fragments of diary reveal a web of deceit and intrigue, violence and murder, raising a whole lot more questions than it answers.

Who was Kaitlyn and why did she only appear at night? Did she really exist or was she a figment of a disturbed mind? What were the illicit rituals taking place at the school? And just what did happen at Elmbridge in the events leading up to ‘the Johnson Incident’?”

Another horror. This one I have owned for a while. Let’s tackle that backlist!

These are the books I have recently read, am currently reading and plan to read next.

Have you read any of these books?
What was the last book you finished?

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. Just finished Shattered Vows by Kaylea Cross. Currently reading The Phantom of the Opera and Rocky Ground by Kaylea Cross. Next I will be reading Demon’s Mercy by Rebecca Zanetti and A Bit of Bite by Cynthia Eden.

I love that you are re-reading Harry Potter and it really makes me want to reread it as well. It has been a few years since I re-read them.

  2. Yay for Harry Potter re-read! After I re-read the first one on Christmas day I wanted to continue reading them, but there are just so many unread books on my TBR that I can’t justify to myself re-reading books.. even my favorites. Although, I really want to… Lol

      1. Haha a very good mission though! I’ve been working through my Spanish reread and took a little break before book seven, but I’m definitely hoping to continue it soon.

  4. Ooh I love that cover for The Luminous Dead. I hope the author pulls off a great read given the limited characters and setting. I need to add more horror to my reading so will be looking out for your thoughts.

  5. Fire Force sounds like a really interesting manga! But ugh, yeah, those scenes annoy me so much and make me roll my eyes so hard, my eyeballs threaten to escape. Oooh, both The Luminous Dead and Dead House sound so interesting! I look forward to hearing what you end up thinking of them.

    Here’s my WWW post.

    1. Super late reply, oops! Some of those scenes are worse than others, but most of them are definitely eye roll inducing. In this one, they really made zero sense to the story. It felt like the author didn’t make much of an effort to at least try to make it work with the story 😂 At this point, I’ve dnf’ed The Luminous Dead, which is pretty unfortunate! Aaaand I haven’t tried The Dead House yet.
