Before we get on with the post… Hi! It’s me Nikki. Yes, I’m still alive. I have been gone for quite some time,9 months to be exact. The main reason why I’ve been gone is simply because life has been a bit chaotic. I’m the type of person who spends an eternity working on my posts and general blog graphics because I want everything to look exactly right. That paired with some big life changes and doing my masters, it was just not working out so well anymore. Another thing that contributed to my disappearance, though I’m sad to admit it, was that it felt like nobody was really paying attention to my posts and it made me feel like it wasn’t worth all the effort anymore. However, recently I’ve been missing my blog and I feel the desire to share my love for books again. I don’t know how this is going to work out but I guess time will tell.

91XY1nLj1XL  Death Note 2

The Girl from the Other Side by Nagabe || I got this in the mail a few days ago and instantly read it in one go. I’ve been enthralled by the cover art for a while now, which was my main reason for picking it up. The story is about this little girl who is supposed to be living on the Inside, a safe place inhabited by humans. However, we find her living on the Outside with teacher, a monster infected by the curse. These two seem to be living a fairly peaceful life, but who knows what type of evil might be lurking around? This was a great first volume and had very cool art as expected!

Death Note Omnibus II by Tsugumi Ohba & Takeshi Obata || I read the first 3 volumes (1,5 omnibus volume) in 2016. Then I got distracted and never ended up getting back into it. Now that I’ve been getting more and more into manga, I feel like I needed to give this well-loved series a second shot. I decided to re-read from the start and continue on. The parts I had already read before were kind of a drag to read again, especially with the first volumes setting up the whole story. However the 4th volume (last half of the second omnibus) things started picking up again. I’m actually quite excited to continue on now.

A clash of kings  Crooked Kingdom  Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

A Clash of Kings (#2) by George R.R. Martin || After the huge disappointment that was the final season of the Game of Thrones tv show, I am slowly making my way through the second book. No idea how long it might take to finish this, since the first one literally took me over 2 years to read.

Crooked Kingdom (#2) by Leigh Bardugo || I started this one a while ago and got to around 200 pages in no time, then uni got busy and rudely separated me from this gem. Now it’s been a while and I want to get back into it, but I want to do so when I have enough time and focus to really immerse myself in the story again, not reading a chapter then putting it down for a week.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (#5) by J.K. Rowling || I have been re-reading Harry Potter on audio ever since I first finished the series last year. It has become sort of a comfort thing for me. When I’m stressed about my thesis or internship I put it on, when a long day of socializing has me worn out I put it on, when I can’t fall asleep I put it on… I have been falling asleep to the same 15 minutes of the story for the past 2 weeks.

  1. I’m happy to see that you are back! I subscribed to your blog right before you took a hiatus, but I really loved the content I did see. I’ve only read the first volume of Death Note, but I love the anime. It’s such a great concept and the opening story arc is one of the best stories I’ve come across in terms of characters and plot.

    1. I’m glad to be back! Happy to hear you enjoy reading some of my posts. Death Note sure has a great concept, very interesting to think about how it could play out. I watched a few episodes of the anime too. Very similar to the manga as well 🙂

Ps. sorry for the late reply, somehow your comment was categorized spam. very weird!

  2. Ooh.. Death Note’s one of my favorite series. Though I don’t remember much of the manga but I did caught up with the anime series. Hope you’ll get through Crooked Kingdom!

“I’m the type of person who spends an eternity working on my posts and general blog graphics because I want everything to look exactly right.” Now if this ain’t me HAHA. Welcome back to blogging, Nikki! Thanks for stopping by at mine.

    1. Yeah I just started the next volume of Death Note yesterday and I’m really enjoying it now. The anime is also great! I’m sure I’ll fly through the rest of Crooked Kingdom as soon as I take the time to get back into it. It’s good to know I’m not the only person obsessing over graphics! Thank you 🙂

  3. WELCOME BACK!!!!! I’m so happy to see you back, love!! I think we’ve all been there. There was about a 4 to 5 month hiatus I took, not knowing if I was going to come back. But after connecting with some core bloggers and getting better with my posts, I feel as though I could never leave. And I’ve gotten better at not overthinking it … even if I’m not as big as other bloggers, this is for me at the tend of the day. But now I’ve really connected with some awesome people … I can’t imagine why I would leave ha-ha!

I’m also a perfectionist … I actually left for an additional 3 months JUST to clean up my blog and to change my aesthetic. Now I feel happy (fairly) with my blog. Now I just have to work on the insta … oh bother.

I started Crooked Kingdom in January … and then stopped? It’s actually super good! I just was not in the mood for fantasy. But lately I’ve been feeling fantasy novels again, so that’s the first one I’m going to pick up. I just got all the first editions again (I was missing a few and found them) of the HP UK editions, so I’m planning to re-read them too! I also want the house colour editions (HUFFLEPUFF FOR LIFE)!

Again, welcome back! And like I said on my page you commented on, once you feel more ready, we should TOTALLY do a buddy ready 😀

    1. It’s definitely comforting knowing that I’m not the only one struggling with these things. But it’s also amazing to see how it doesn’t really matter how long of a break you take, once you come back and reach out to people, this book blogging community is a very welcoming space. Thank you for always being such a warm and welcoming person! I’m going to try to do the same thing, not overthinking it and having fun with blogging and sharing the love for books.

The new look you gave your blog looks very nice and clean, you did a great job! Your instagram doesn’t look bad at all! Don’t even get me started on mine. I think I’ve tried to start that up on about 10 different occasions and miserably failed each time haha.

Crooked Kingdom is SO good so far, I feel like I’m kind of doing it a disservice to take such a long break in the middle of the book. I might just have to restart it and take some time out to really emerse myself in it. Must have been great to be reunited with the HP first editions you were missing! Have fun with the re-read ❤

Thanks again for being so welcoming and I would absolutely love to do a buddy read sometime soon! 🙂

      1. I feel the same. Everyone is just so kind. I rejoined Twitter the other day and after 10 minutes, had blogger friends announcing I joined and congrats and “welcoming me to the dark side” lol! It sounds silly, but stuff like that makes you realize how much everyone cares.

I just added you and took a quick peak but man … I love your insta! Very Earthy. I’m changing my theme today!! So excited!!

Of course! Thank you for reaching out! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for your blog!! ❤

  4. I’m rereading HP book five soon as well! I can’t wait to dive back in although I’m not looking forward to meeting Umbridge again haha. I hope you will be able to get back into Crooked Kingdom soon! I absolutely love that series. Have a wonderful week and happy reading! Here’s my WWW.

    1. Haven’t gotten to Umbridge yet in this re-read but I’m sure I’ll be just as frustrated with her as the previous time reading it! Totally worth it though. I think it always will be. I hope I get to Crooked Kingdom as well I was really enjoying it and I don’t think I have encountered anyone who doesn’t love it. Wonderfull week to you too!

  5. I totally get how you feel – I just ended a 6 month hiatus on here. Partly because of school as well, but also I get how it feels to put in the effort and not get a lot of feedback!

But I’m glad to see you back – I see you’re still reading the GOT series! 🙂 I just recently read and loved The Girl from the Other Side too.

    1. It’s good to know I’m not alone in this. I want to blog because I like doing it and not let my enjoyment be dictated by how much people interact with my blog, but when nobody stops by at all it can feel like your talking into a void.

I’m glad to be back though! Interacting in the comments of other people’s posts has been great as well. Yep still going with GOT. At this pace, I think I might be reading the last book while I’m babysitting my grandchildren! 😂 Have you read any other volumes of The Girl from the Other Side or just the first one?

      1. I feel the same way! I love the blogging for myself, but it’s so much more enriching when there are people interacting with you.

I totally feel that about GOT – I think when I read it, each book took me a year to finish. 😅I haven’t read anymore volumes of The Girl from the Other Side yet – I think everyone else at my library realized how good it is at the same time. But I have volume 2 on hold, so hopefully I can read more soon!!

        1. Ohh I’m so jealous that you can pick them up at the library! They don’t usually have manga or graphic novels here. Honestly their even lacking in any English books. Anyhow when I will be able to continue with it completely depends on my own budget, it’s a sad situation really. I hope you’ll enjoy the second volume as much as the first one. You should definitely let me know whenever you get to it!
