Favorite Tv Show Villains | Top 5 Wednesday

Top 5 Wednesday is hosted by two lovely ladies named Lainey and Samanta over at their Goodreads group. They give you monthly prompts for each Wednesday.

This week’s topic is “Favorite villains”

“It’s been a little while since we’ve done the villain topic, and this one will definitely be a recurring one in the group as there are always new villains to talk about. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO AVOID HARRY POTTER CHARACTERS!!!!”

This topic was actually the topic of November 30. I wasn’t able to do it at that time but love the topic, so I’m doing it today. I chose to do tv show villains because I felt like it. I decided against picking multiple characters from one tv show, so I did some extra ‘honorable mentions’. My villains fall roughly into three categories.

The ‘Gray’ Category

They’re both bad and good (but mostly bad)

Walter White from Breaking Bad and Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington from The Blacklist. Both of these characters do horrible, unthinkable stuff but there is a reason behind it. Both actors are great, even though Bryan Cranston will always be my favorite. When it comes down to it these characters are both bad people, but I can’t help but love them.

The ‘Actually Despise Them’ Category

They’re so good at being bad, I actually can’t stand them

Pensatucky from Orange is the New Black, Clay & Gemma from Sons of Anarchy, George Foyet from Criminal Minds, and Philip Blake from The Walking Dead. All of them make me so angry I want to punch something. Clay & Gemma are the worst (I know I would only pick one per show but they are practically one person). I must admit it’s almost embarrassing how many times I screamed at my tv watching those two. George Foyet is one of many dreadful characters on Criminal Minds, but he is definitely at the top. Philip Blake is the newest on my list of hate since I’m currently catching up on The Walking Dead. What a complete psychopath. I hate Pensatucky a little less than the rest of them because she turns around, a little. Talk about any of these characters to me and I instantly lose my shit.

The ‘Am I Bad for Loving These?’ Catagory

They’re so evil and twisted they become great to me

Dexter from Dexter, Hannibal Lecter from Hannibal the tv show, Theodore Bagwell aka T-Bag from Prison Break and Ramsey Bolton from Game of Thrones. They’re all just so awful it’s wonderful. I might be a bad person for loving these characters so much but I can’t help myself. Dexter and Hannibal are both so twisted they make very interesting characters. T-Bag and Ramsey Bolton are widely hated. Both actors are so good at being evil, it’s crazy. Their mannerisms are on point. Ramsey Bolton is one of my favorites in the Game of Thrones. I think he is number 4, right after Arya, Jon and Tyrion. Yes, I like Ramsey more than I like Daenerys. Sue me.

Honorable Mentions

Gustavo Fring from Breaking Bad, Pornstash from Orange is the New Black, Brad Bellick from Prison Break, and Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones.
